TX P42X10B At Sound And Vision
Hot off the press - the Panasonic TX-P42X10B LCD TV at Pixmania for only £648.99 which means you get to save 25% off the usual price. We’ve got the full lowdown on this 42″ Panasonic LCD below so read on…
The TX-P42X10B is part of the new Spring range of plasma’s from Panasonic and it’s actually a fantastic value TV. At a time when TV manufacturers’ are pushing an avalanche of new products it’s very refreshing to see a real gem pop up amongst the crowd. There is one little bump in this rather smooth ride - the not-so popular 1024 x 768, HD-Ready resolution. That said, the pricing reflects the relatively low resolution. Many Blu-ray owners could be tempted to search for only Full HD screens - hold your horses and read a while longer…
This Panasonic has some very respectable specs. Three HDMI inputs plus all the usual run of the mill inputs are there (component, RGB Scart, S-Video and composite). The TX-P42X10B also has twin tuners and an SD card-reader which makes it a good option for anyone wanting to transfer photo’s, etc onto this television. The TV comes in a very attractive slim, glossy finish and the on-screen menus are a prime example of Panasonic’s attempt to make everything easy to navigate. The only downside to this is the new remote control - feels a bit cheap.
Both the digital and analogue TV tuners deliver an impressive display - whether you’ve watching TV or DVD you get realistic colours, unlike some TV’s which seem to images into gelid blobs!
576-resolution images don’t hamper this Panasonic - you get fantastic image stability and detail retrieval. Ok, sometimes the flatscreen can throw a track occassionally - mainly when trying to track unpredictable or super-fast motion, but it’s not that bad and, besides, we’ve seen this problem on more expensive LCD TV’s from other manufacturers.
The TV delivers its best display when showing Blu-ray images (no surprise there). True, the images are downscaled from 1080p but the makes for this with its TV’s ability to deliver stunning colours and a huge range of blacks (20000:1 native contrast ratio / 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio).
Ok, there is a shortage of detail if you compare this to similar Full TV’s but can you really find another 42in Full HD plasmas for under £700? Here’s a listing of exactly what you get for your money:
* 106cm Visible Plasma Screen
* HD Ready
* Integrated Digital ‘Freeview’ Tuner
* x.v. Colour
* Natural Vision Filter
* V Real Pro 4 Picture Engine
* 100Hz Double Speed Scan Technology
* 20000:1 native contrast ratio / 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
* V-Audio sound enhancement
* 3 HDMI connections
* Viera Link
* SD Card slot (JPEG)
* ECO Mode & ECO Link for reduced power consumption
All in all, the Panasonic TX-P42X10B is pretty good offering for the prices and looks to be an excellent first look at what will be coming from Panasonic in 2009. Make sure you checkout this deal at Sound and Vision - £648.99!
